mixterplus beta

An all-original music library created through collaboration, where Giving Credit is simplified.

FAQ

  1. What is MixterPlus?  MixterPlus is a premier library of original music currently in Beta.

  2. Is it free? Any registered Mixter may freely download and mix content from mixter.plus for uploading on mixter.plus — because Giving Credit is automated through the remix tree, and Attribution is currency.

  3. Who is invited? Beta invitations are being sent. If you’re a member at ccMixter and want an invite, email us.

  4. How does MixterPlus differ from ccMixter? MixterPlus uses Group Copyright to Give Credit. To ensure accurate Attribution travels beyond our community, MixterPlus tracks will be fingerprinted in Content ID.

  5. What about AI? AI-generated content (compositions, vocals, instrumentation, etc) is NOT welcome on MixterPlus at this time. AI-generated content is in public domain, can’t be fingerprinted for Attribution and it is not covered under copyright law. AI assistance plug-ins are ok —for mastering, mixing, EQ, etc. This may change in the future.

  6. What file types should be uploaded? For now, please upload a 128k or 192k MP3 for streaming and listening. But please also bounce (and store on your local machine) a FLAC and we’ll let you know as soon as MixterPlus adds functionality for additional uploads for one track.

  7. Does MixterPlus need exclusivity? For now, yes. Due to the platform bans on CC-licensed content, complications with imposters claiming to own the copyrights on CC-licensed content, and to avoid multiple Attribution claims on the same content, we’re asking artists to upload new, all-original content — not available anywhere else — to seed the MixterPlus premier library. Additionally, uploads to MixterPlus should not have other Content ID claims to avoid confusion. This might change in the future.

  8. Can I use the royalty-free samples included in VST and sampler plugins? Yes, individual samples used to create your own melodies and rhythms are fine. However, pre-fabricated loops, melodies, stems and complete songs can’t be used because they trigger fingerprint matches in Content ID, confusing copyright and licensing.

  9. Can I use content licensed under Creative Commons or in public domain? NO. Creative Commons licenses have been banned in Content ID because of confusion around copyright. Recordings in public domain cannot be used becasue they trigger fingerprint matches in Content ID, however, you may create new recordings of public domain material (songs, poetry, melodies).

  10. What about other creators? Creators can use MixterPlus tracks in their social media projects — for free. To Give Credit to our artists, MixterPlus will claim its music portion of any video (without any copyright strike). For use beyond MixterPlus and social media, affordable licenses are available - email us.

  11. How is the MixterPlus license different than Creative Commons licenses? Collaborations at MixterPlus fall under Group Copyright so everyone Gets Credit. Creative Commons licenses can be confusing and complicated, we’re trying to simplify use of our music while still ensuring free collaboration and open use.

  12. Why doesn’t MixterPlus use CC licenses? CC licenses were banned from Content ID many years ago which has allowed imposters to illegally claim the copyrights of ccMixter music; resulting in confusing copyright strikes to other creators properly using our music. Additionally, the only terms of CC licenses, Attribution and Commercial use, are not followed by most users or platforms. MixterPlus licenses are trying to fix this.

  13. What are the goals of MixerPlus? Collaborate as a community. Create inspiring music. Develop our craft together and individually. Ensure Attribution follows where our music goes. Give artists more opportunities for their music — creatively and financially.
